Congratulations on your new job role as a Scrum Master! As you join a new team of professionals, you immediately become responsible for driving the Agile Project towards success! You work hand-in-hand with the Product Owner, Scrum team, Developers, and Business Stakeholders to achieve various Business Objectives. 

However, stepping into the role of a Scrum Master comes with its unique set of challenges and opportunities. Your first few weeks in this role are critical for setting the tone and building rapport with others. As you initiate positive change within your team, you must know where to begin! Today’s guide will help you understand what tasks you must fulfill in the first few weeks!

Week 0: Prepare Before You Begin

Before diving headfirst into your new role, take some time to refresh your understanding of Agile principles and Scrum framework. Whether you're a Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or undergoing Agile training for the first time, revisiting the basics is always beneficial. Here's what you can do:

  • Revisit the Agile Manifesto and its 12 principles.
  • Review the responsibilities of the Product Owner and the Developers.
  • Familiarize yourself with the five Scrum events and their purposes.
  • Dive into the team's history and existing documentation.

In your final week of the month, take time to evaluate your progress and celebrate achievements:

  • Evaluate the team's agile metrics and adjust as necessary to ensure they align with the team's goals.
  • Celebrate achievements within the team and showcase progress to stakeholders.
  • Reflect on your performance as a Scrum Master and identify areas for personal growth and development.
