What Is Organisational Agility And Steps To Achieve It?

What Is Organisational Agility And Steps To Achieve It?

Growing and operating a business of any given size in the current day & age of the digital environment is definitely not easy. Such a concept is indeed true when it comes to the perspective of sustainable growth and performance of a business, along with its employee success & engagement.

Since the speed of doing business is increasing continuously, better executions and collaborations need to be made, especially around strategic goals. Doing so will make the business much more responsive to any type of business demands or market changes. Moreover, real-time development and enhanced employee coaching are also required due to the growing market competition in every field. Therefore, to succeed in these avenues, organizations need to implement or apply a much more Agile approach in empowering employees, HR leaders, and managers. And that approach can only come in the form of Organizational Agility.

What Do You Mean By Organisational Agility?

At its very core, Organizational Agility is all about how a company reacts to a certain change in its market environment. To be Agile or develop Agility, two elements are required - stability and dynamic capability. The dynamic capability involves the ability to move very fast while being highly responsive to change. On the other hand, stability denotes having a stable foundation  a platform or backbone that doesn't change. Over time, this stable backbone of the company will acts as an anchor point that doesn't change, even when other business aspects are constantly changing.

Such change is required because when organizations lack their Agile process, the overall decision-making procedure within the company gets overall tedious and the engagement levels become increasingly low. That's why significant changes should be implemented to harness the improvement that Agility brings to the company.

Steps To Implement Organisational Agility
1. Shifting The Culture Of The Organisation

Any major change comes with the correct mindset and the same can be said when you start the journey in achieving Organizational Agility. The procedure should be implemented in such a manner that the whole company will come forward to pursue it because it needs to begin from the top management.

The overall quality of the leadership should be able to set the tone for the Agile implementation. This is the reason why company leaders should first understand the importance of Organizational Agility. By doing so, the leaders will be able to create an environment where the company's employees can continuously learn, experiment, and improve their business tactics.

Moreover, it should be perceived that trust also forms a significant factor in the implementation of such a method. Managers or leaders should be able to trust their employees to be able to get the job done. Security must be provided to the employees so that the employees don't get afraid of committing mistakes. Successful companies are always able to drive their businesses forward because they are highly flexible when working through market changes, obstacles, and risks.

2. Knowing The Need For More Than One Agile Approach

There's no denying that companies definitely need to have multiple approaches for Agile project management at their disposal. Such a stance can help in bringing greater flexibility inside the organization's operations.

Each product or project should have its own requirements and the company management should also accept that there's no one-size-fits-all concept that can be implemented here.

3. Empower The Employees

If the company wants to achieve true Agility, then it should ensure that everyone in the company should be able to achieve it. And to do that, the company has to ingrain the culture of Organizational Agility into the minds of the employees.

When it comes to the acquisition of talent, professionals should be hired based on their experience & knowledge across a variety of different projects. Training should also be incorporated on Agile skills to promote the learning & growth of employees.

Furthermore, Agile leaders must be developed within the organization. The main goal would be to create employees who are technical, strategic adept, expert, have soft skills and leadership quality - so that Organizational Agility could be practiced.

4. Always Inspect & Adapt

Teams that have high Agility have always recognized that performing incremental development tends to be much more advantageous than performing big-bang developments all of a sudden. Therefore, teams should be able to call the shots regarding the way the project should be handled. This means that bureaucracy should be removed at all costs so that better decision making can be introduced.

When the team can focus on the learning criteria, they can become more creative over time, leading to innovation and a better product.

5. The Continuous Push For Innovation & Learning

Technologies change faster than we can cope up with. That's why organizations should always update their Agile approach knowledge along with the awareness for newer technology so that they can continuously evolve.

Learning should be also carried forward with market data and customer feedback. Moreover, regular modifications to products should be implemented so that they can reflect the recent market trends. Lastly, business strategies and priorities should be revisited every quarter to ensure that projects are carried out in the proper direction.

Conclusion

Just like technologies, markets also tend to change. That's why organizations need to be Agile more than ever before so that they can respond to the demands of the market & consumers.

Organizational Agility isn't just a one-time project, it's a continuous process. Agility should be made the lifestyle of every company and that's how organizations can stay successful for a long time.
