What is chatGPT?

What is chatGPT?

What is chatGPT? Everything we need to Know about this OpenAI Tool

Launched in November 2022, ChatGPT is surely the new buzzword in today’s technical world. The chatbot system has taken the world by storm due to its realistic and human-like features. ChatGPT is developed by OpenAI and is currently made free to use for the public. ChatGPT basically works by interacting with the user in a conversational dialogue manner and responds in a ‘human’ way. The chatbot amassed an exciting audience of over 1 million within a week of its launch.

How does ChatGPT work?

As per OpenAI, ChatGPT has been developed using Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) so as to make the chatbot logical and generate ‘human’ replies. Human AI trainers played an essential role as they engaged in conversations by playing from both ends i.e., the AI assistant and the user. This repeated form of conversation eventually led to the recognition of words, images, etc., by the chatbot, and this is how the program began to acknowledge human text.

Besides RLHF, it is also necessary to understand that ChatGPT is a Large Language Model (LLM). LLMs are basically taught to predict the next word in a sentence. Through this method, LLMs can write down lots of content, and that’s exactly what happens at ChatGPT. However, LLMs are inept at realising the needs of a human being, and this is exactly where RLHF comes into place. The combination of these two things has actually resulted in this breakthrough.

How to use ChatGPT?

For the time being, OpenAI has made the service free to use, but this is only during the research period. To make use of ChatGPT, one can visit OpenAI and click on “Try ChatGPT” which can be found after opening ChatGPT under the ‘Featured’ section. The website will require the user to sign-up, which is always a hassle-free process, and then the user is good to go. We might like to highlight that ChatGPT will, as per OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, get monetized in the coming future. So if you are a tech-savvy person who is intrigued by ChatGPT, the perfect time to try out the program is now!

Does ChatGPT have limitations?

We can all agree that getting a program to imitate human responses is not a piece of cake. ChatGPT deserves all the credit in the world for being the most accurate and logical chatbot, however, it does have certain drawbacks. OpenAI has openly claimed on their website that their program does have certain limitations as it may deliver nonsensical or wrong answers. In addition to those, the model can sometimes get too garrulous and repetitive. Perhaps the biggest limitation of ChatGPT is that the program is sensitive to the manner in which we phrase our inputs. As an example, ChatGPT might have an accurate response for a certain question, but if the question is styled in a different manner, the program might not be able to comprehend it.

Do we need Google anymore?

Debates regarding ChatGPT replacing Google have surfaced on the internet. Some people’s optimism regarding the chatbot has led them to believe that it can even replace humans in certain activities, especially teaching. Professionals may have conflicting views, in regards to the above question but as discussed earlier, ChatGPT is flawed to an extent. Some people have proven how simple tricks can divert the filters of ChatGPT. So it can be expected that ChatGPT might surpass the potential of Google in the coming years, but for the time being, it cannot be placed next to Google search or humans.

Scope of ChatGPT

We have saved the best for the last. Most people are aware of the fact that people in millions have begun thronging to OpenAI so as to use ChatGPT, but how much can we extract from the program? To what extent can the chatbot help us with our day-to-day activities? ChatGPT can be used to write code, stories, songs, etc. Stories can also be written in the exact manner in which a specific author writes. The program can also allow you to generate content and write a full-length novel. For a layman, ChatGPT can be used for any task which can be responded with text.

Conclusion

Thanks to its remarkable features and ease of use, ChatGPT is definitely a force to be reckoned with. This technological breakthrough is backed by intensive research and uses deep learning to generate text just how a human would like to receive it. From answering questions of varying genres to writing codes, ChatGPT is helping professionals all around the world in fulfilling their important tasks. Students, computer programmers, clueless individuals, etc., all resort to the use of ChatGPT. The best part, for now, is that the chatbot is totally free of cost, although we can expect that to change later.
